To nominate someone for the Roll of Honour you need to register with Tymes Trust.

Teacher Mike Watson receives the Roll of Honour after being nominated by Andrew King and his family "for all the help and understanding that he gave Andrew while he was Andrew's teacher, his kindness and support in being willing to read any information given to him on ME, and for the many occasions he showed that he had taken the information he had read on board, which really helped Andrew a great deal with his illness."
We nominate The Quay Inn, Wareham, who provided sustenance and encouragement to the 2001 Odyssey team including former jockey Brough Scott (presenter of Channel 4 Racing) who rode Kaan on the first leg of his fund-raising marathon.
Kirsty Watts has nominated her home tutor Jill Winsor because "she has been very very understanding and I think she deserves this award very much". Kirsty has had ME for about 4 years and as a special surprise has also nominated both her mum Carol "as she is the best mum in the world" and her dad Robert.
Debra Boland, together with her son Luke who has severe ME and the Boland family have nominated Luke's friends Ben Radcliff and Christian Pearson. They are giving the certificates to the school with a request that they be included in Ben's and Christian's Record of Achievement. Debra says that for 2 years "they have without fail come to visit Luke every week of his illness".
Andrew King and his family have nominated teachers Susan Mawson and Ruth Gray, who have "given tremendous support and understanding, done everything possible to help, read all the information we gave them, and even regularly give up their free time to call and visit Andrew for a chat." They have managed to spread this spirit of acceptance to his whole class.

Simon McCoy of Sky News has been nominated by Sarah Cumming of Gibraltar. "I wrote to Simon when I was first ill and in his reply he suggested I keep in touch. I did. I slowly started telling him about feeling so ill and no-one believing me here in Gibraltar. His emails made me feel so much better; he would say little things that were so encouraging. When I had to go for an MRI scan he told me he was keeping his fingers crossed for me, and his support gave me courage to attend the doctors appointment where I got the diagnosis of ME."
Mrs Humphries and Mrs Jill Sharp are both home tutors nominated by Luis Valentine. "They have been so flexible, letting me have my lessons on the days and times that are best for me and letting me take regular rest breaks. As I finish my tuition this year I would like to give them each a special signed certificate in calligraphy as a going away gift."
We would all like to thank Parkfield School, Toddington, for their magnificent donation of £1022.79 for our childrens work. Many of the children in the school kindly gave of their own pocket money. This Roll is not a comprehensive list of fund-raisers - there are so many other types of kindness and support and we like to recognise them all. In this case it was the pupils generosity and interest in the situation of children and young people with ME which decided us to add the school to our Roll of Honour. Teacher Robert Lightowler is also to be warmly thanked for his personal interest in the project.
Dr Simon Lenton has been nominated by Damien Valentine "because he is kind and caring. He has really helped my mum and me with many of our problems. .He asks how I am, what I have been doing since my last visit and if I have any questions, then he listens to what I have to say and how I feel. He talks to me rather than talking to my mum about me. I know he is a good doctor and a nice person, he has helped me a lot. He deserves this award."
Dad Graham, Mum Terry and little sister Emily have all been nominated by Samantha Minshaw, who says: "My mum is an inspiration to me, she has kept not only me going through all of this but has kept her sense of humour and helped me to keep mine! She is always there for me and has supported me in everything that I have ever done (or dreamed of doing one day!). She most definitely deserves one of your certificates.... [so does] my dad and my little sister for all of the same reasons!"
The Cock Inn in Stock, Essex, is nominated by Jane Colby for good citizenship and kindheartedness on Christmas Day 1999. Jane says if the members can nominate people, so can she! Jane's mother was ill (she has ME) and couldn't get to the Inn for her Christmas Dinner, so the chef assembled a wonderful hot platter full of turkey, stuffing, vegetables and gravy for Jane and her son Mark to take back to her mother. Thank you, guys, for saving the day.
Paul Fisher of Prontoprint in Wickford, Essex is nominated for his wonderfully good-humoured reliability and support for us whenever we need batches of printing for the Young Action Online mailings or make other sudden demands! He has even been known to deliver the order in bulk to the home of Jennie, Jane Colby's PA. Thank you from all of us, Paul.

Calvin Wiseman is Anne Lemon's third nomination. "I thought that this would be a unique way of saying thank you for his kindness, friendship, support and encouragement. I think that this is a great idea - the Honour List of nominees. It's a great way for someone like myself who is able to get out very little to say thank you to the people who make a difference."
Dr Conway and all the staff at Greenhead College in Huddersfield are nominated by Rosemary Shorter: "throughout my illness they have helped me in every way possible to complete my A-levels within the restrictions of my ME...I hope you'll agree this is a shining example of an educational establishment supporting a young ME sufferer!" Rosemary's amazing description of how the college assisted her is being added to "Personal Experiences - Educational Modifications" which you will find on the Documents Index of this site.
Mrs Walshaw, Rosemary Shorter's history tutor, receives her own nomination: "Her efforts on my behalf have been EXCEPTIONAL. Even the year when I was concentrating on my English only she often sent me cards and we spoke on the phone when I was up to it...she has given her time to me so generously...putting sections of the textbook onto tape...she listened so carefully to what I said about the M.E. that she came to understand the nature of the condition (and how it affected me) almost as minutely as my immediate family."
Nominations have been received anonymously for the following three people : Calvin Wiseman from Norfolk: "he has kept me going with a never-ending supply of cards, letters and sometimes gifts, all full of love and support." Gaby Hale from Gloucestershire: "although Gaby is very ill herself, she sent a constant supply of letters and cards to see me through my bad patch". Vikki Kitson from Leeds: "although I had only known her for one year before becoming ill, she is the only friend [from that time] who has stuck by me. She is very supportive and understanding." The person nominating these friends has received so much kindness from others too that she would not want anyone to feel left out - but she couldn't write about you all!

"I would like to say a big thank you to all the teachers at the school, who have been so understanding for the past two years. (The Open Network is not an Internet network and any Young Action Online member can register, whether they have access to the Internet or not.) Thanks from everyone, Alex.
Maria Steyn of South Africa (whose daughter Kathryn originally registered by her first name of Tumi) has been nominated for her kindness in donating £5 for someone else's child to receive a year's subscription to TYMES. After I was in the local paper she even wanted my autograph. I'd just like her to know that she makes a difference.

Max Daly of The Big Issue receives a certificate for "outing" the practice of referring children with ME to Social Services with a view to imposing unproven, controversial psychiatric treatment which has often resulted in a worsening of illness. Thanks go to The Big Issue for stimulating much needed public discussion of this subject in the press and media. A question has now been asked by the Countess of Mar in the House of Lords.
Christine and the staff of Computer and Office Supplies in Billericay for their unstinting support for the Children's Dept. Thank you Christine, especially for the aeons you spent cutting and pasting when The Big Issue came out - and all for free.

Thanks to Tommy! At the Young Action Online stand at the Family Show in London in early July, little Tommy fed Sebastian the Spider with money from his own purse. We can't send him a special certificate for generosity as we don't have his address, but we hope he still has his badge. Thank you, Tommy! Hi to the family too. Thanks for purchasing tickets in our draw and good luck.
Many thanks to printers In-Print of Yorkshire (01653 697261) for their generosity in upgrading TYMES to magazine status with quality cover and extra pages.
Samantha Ketley of Gillingham has been nominated anonymously by one of our members who writes: "When I developed Chronic Fatigue/ME in my first year at university she was there for me. Without her I don't think I would have managed to stay at university and finish. She helped me with my washing, cooking etc., all the things that are so exhausting, which enabled me to focus on my study. For someone who has never had ME she was so understanding of the illness - a quality rare to find."

Head Teacher Mrs Maybee and all the staff at Dodderhill School, Worcs, nominated by Sarah Hill of Redditch: "Throughout my illness they have been a continuous source of support and help. They have done everything possible to accommodate my illness, and I was able to set 2 GCSEs at home on separate occasions - one from bed! I regard them more as friends than teachers and feel that I'm always welcome there."
June and Ralph Pettitt of Redditch, also nominated by Sarah Hill: "They have been a tremendous support to me and all my family and have always been there. I would like them to know how much their continuous support means to us."

Congratulations to Carrie-Anne Markey and Angela Macdonald from Scotland, who wrote to me for information and subsequently produced an ME info-pack for their school as part of an English project. The pack details just what it is like to live with ME. Roll-of-Honour Certificates go to both of you for spreading the word so effectively. Carrie writes: "I think it helped us both a lot. Up until we wrote, I tried not to think about ever having been ill. It's helped me to 'face facts' I suppose, and hopefully move on. I passed my English module. I've now started doing an English higher (equivalent to A-level) so I'm very pleased as you can imagine!"
Avenue Middle School, Avenue Road, Norwich, Norfolk, NR2 3HP has donated £1036.14 which has provided over 1000 free Welcome Packs for young people joining Young Action Online. If you write to the school to thank them, please address your letter to Mr Mingham. Email office@ranbyhouse.u-net.com.
Dr Nigel Hunt [GP] from Chelmsford, Essex (has now been twice nominated) has a special interest in ME/CFS. He has written a chapter on the management of ME/CFS for the forthcoming book "Managing Infections" to be published by Bios (a specialist scientific publisher). The Gill family of Chelmsford, Essex, wish to be mentioned as nominees because of his kind support for Sarah's educational and medical needs (even visiting unasked during his evening off). Accordingly the family name will go onto his certificate. He has joined our Open Network of friendly professionals and young people with ME.
Christ Church Mother and Toddler Group, Abingdon held a nearly-new sale and sent us the proceeds. We don't intend our Roll of Honour to be a list of contributors (we'll have a different list for them later) but we thought they deserved special thanks because this money was completely unexpected.

"My best friend Suzy has been so good to me throughout the 8 years of my illness ... she's one in a million and I'd just like her to know how much I appreciate all she's done."
